VW RNS 850 code entry

Which cars have the VW RNS 850?

The VW RNS 850 was fitted to the Touareg 7P, Phaeton. The same unit may also appear in other Volkswagen models of the same era.

What does a VW RNS 850 radio serial look like?

It is 14 characters long and starts with VWZ, for example VWZ1Z2H1234567. You'll find it on the sticker on the radio casing.

Why does my VW RNS 850 radio say SAFE?

SAFE means the anti-theft lock is active because the radio lost power, for example after a flat battery or battery change. If SAFE stays on the screen after wrong attempts, leave the radio powered on for about an hour and it will reset.

Will my code still work after a battery change?

Yes. The code belongs to the radio unit and never changes. Keep it with your car documents and you can reuse it any time the battery is disconnected.

Can I get the code from my VIN?

No. Volkswagen radio codes are tied to the radio serial number, not the vehicle VIN. You'll need to read the serial from the radio label.

What if my code does not work?

Double-check the serial, especially the letter I versus the number 1. If the serial is correct and the code still fails, contact us and we will recheck it free or refund you in full.
